Honesty is the best policy
Hello, I am writing this post on the 25th of November 2020. I think it is safe to say that this year has been challenging by most anybody’s standards.
I’m not sure where I was going with that perhaps an acknowledgement that at the time of writing we are still in difficult times.
I’m looking forward to doing some blog posts here. I hope that it will give you a chance to get to know me. I am definitely choosy about what my three ladies get to eat and I would think that you probably are for your feathered friends too. So I hope that this will help you to get to know me. There is also a brand-new YouTube channel where I am hoping to share vlogs too.
As well as sharing about my products, I hope to write and vlog a bit about my life with my three ladies. I have shared their pictures and a little about them awhile back on Instagram.
This Segways nicely into the title of today’s blog. I can just imagine you asking, “how is that?” Well when I started Orkney Parrots I made a conscious choice not to make lots of references to blindness on the website. There is a picture of my guide dog Barney on the our story page. Apart from this one nod however I’m not sure that I have made any other references. My thinking was that I want Orkney Parrots to be known for providing Quality products and excellent nutrition for all Parrots and not because it is run by a blind woman. However I am now noticing a slight flaw in this thinking. While I want to be known for my products, living with blindness or (in modern speak) visual impairment or sight loss is part of my lived experience. I think that it is also possible that if you have followed Orkney Parrots on social media for awhile you might be saying, “there is something here and I don’t know what it is.” If you have been saying this, I hope that I have now solved the mystery for you.
A lot of how I work at Orkney Parrots is solved by modern technology. However I would like to thank the very talented lady at Orcadia design for helping me with lots of technical stuff, not least this website. I also have a lovely volunteer helping (sometimes) with social media.
Now that this (big metaphorical skeleton) is out of my cupboard, I hope that you will join me on future blogs and vlogs and get to know me and my three gray ladies better. I now have to run and prepare some more vegetables, but I hope to blog again really soon. If you would like to contact me about my products or even anything in this blog please feel free to do so.
If you are living with sight loss and would like support you can visit the RNIB’s website. If you would like to find out more about Guide Dogs or apply for a guide dog please visit the GDBA’s website.
Last but by no means least, thank you for reading this post.
